Actually...this is not an additional blog for the month of June.

I have always been interested in history and maps and traveling so...
As I look at the 'stats' of who you are out there that happen to be reading my blog...or at least checking in to see what is happening...I am wondering who you are!

Especially, from Russia...Do you know someone I know or did you just happen to find this blog?

And from Germany, France and England...are you 'friends of the family'? Just kidding but I'm wondering if you know me.

Both my husband and I are searching for a globe to have in our house. We page through travel offers. We look back over photos of adventures we have had in numerous places, mostly in the U.S. Years back we enjoyed have so many International students visit our home. The world is an interesting place!!

I'm not going to try to sell anything and I promise not to peek into your lifestyle. I am just very interested in learning more about how we have gotten together. Hmmm...maybe it is just one of those 'technology' things....

More 'Amazement'

I am a bit slow with all this technology stuff but a friend told me about 'Pinterest". Wow! Can you believe there are that many things to know - learn about - try - explore..... (and I must add, there are some really crazy things, also!)
It's been awhile since I have done special things with a toddler and I've really had fun reading what kinds of activities are described for young children. And I have to smile at the things that are still popular - things I did with my daughter more than a couple years ago. Interesting site!!

Breathtaking...

Not being an avid football fan, it was quite an experience to have attended the recent OSU game. I must say, the OSU band equals the football team...they are amazing. With it being November and elections and Veterans Day just around the corner, the music was beautifully and tastefully patriotic. I was just soaking up the last notes of the final piece. The instruments had been quiet for a second...when we were all taken aback as military jets did a 'fly-over'. WOW! That's what I call a good football game!

FALL IS IN THE AIR...

How quickly the seasons seem to change. Didn't I just mention that is was spring or was it summer...and here we are with the daylight being around for a shorter time in the evenings and - dare I say - it is actually cool. The windows are open and the air conditioning is turned off.
I have been thinking about the seasons of life...again. A friend suggested yet another book, THE EMPEROR OF MALADIES.
If there has been cancer in your life or in the life of someone you know, this is a most interesting book. I don't know if I could have read it during my treatment but now, years later, I learned more than I was ready to learn then.
As I read, I thought about how fortunate I was to have been diagnosed after some of these treatments had been tested. I am in the autumn of my life now - having been blessed with many healthy years since 1996. And spring and summer were good times even with the challenge of cancer.

I was just thinking...

Needlework

I completed my first try at needlepoint. It looks pretty good as long as you don't look at the back side. So - now I am attempting a large piece. It's pretty repetitive work but I do a lot of thinking when I am working on it. Sitting with the needle in my hand, stitching in those little squares is kind of like creating a quiet time for listening to what is going on within. When I ponder that thought, it might be good to have a piece of needlepoint to go to whenever I need a quiet moment. Hmmmm...

LIFE A LONG TIME AGO...

Christmas is coming in beautiful Colonial Williamsburg. From the lovely gardens that were still producing their winter crop to the inviting front doors decked out with wreaths...it was a festive atmosphere.
To be more realistic to the times, an area has been added that clearly demonstrates how difficult life was for those who were not blessed to be wealthy or powerful. No matter who it was that lived in this community or the outlying area, we have much to be thankful for as they began to create a foundation upon which we have built.
Just as in those early settlement days, life now is not always a 'bed of roses'; we struggle as we try to understand the ways of politicians...hoping the minds running the government of our day will choose to understand compromise and seek balance.
In the meantime, Christmas is coming...enjoy the photos we brought back with us from an interesting visit to colonial times.

by Siddhartha Mukherjee
(Unusual reading as this is a biography of cancer. You would think this would be too scientific but it was interesting and informative as well as easy reading)

The Greater Journey
by David McCullough
( Is not anything by this author wonderful...but this is a story of adventurous and creative people who went to Paris from America rather that traveling West in this new country.)

Women Who Run With the Wolves
by Clarissa Pinkols Estes
(This book has been around for a long while but I just did a re-read and liked it more that the first time around. Several sections particularly 'hit home'.)

A Fiery Peace in the Cold War
by Neil Sheehan
(I didn't know this author and am not inclined to 'war books' but I really enjoy history. Very interesting as it moves through the time preceding the Cold War and on into our over-preparedness as fear led our country. This author provided some interesting information regarding our country during these years.
